چکیده

Background and Purpose—Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular complications. Transforming growth factor1 (TGF1) is a pleiotropic cytokine with a central role in inflammation. Little is known of the relation of variations within the gene and risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. We therefore investigated 5 polymorphisms in the TGF1 gene ( 800 G/A, 509 C/T, codon 10 Leu/Pro, codon 25 Arg/Pro, and codon 263 Thr/Ile) in relation to the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in a population-based study. Methods—Participants (N 6456) of the Rotterdam Study were included in the current study. Analyses of the relations of genotypes with the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke were performed according to Cox proportional-hazards methods. All analyses were adjusted for age, sex, conventional cardiovascular risk factors, and medical history. Results—We found no association with the risk of myocardial infarction. A significantly increased risk of stroke was found, associated with the T allele of the 509 C/T polymorphism (relative risk, 1.26; (95% CI, 1.06 to 1.49) and the Pro variant of the codon 10 polymorphism (relative risk, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.04 to 1.48). Conclusions—No association between the TGF1 polymorphisms and myocardial infarction was observed; however, the 509 C/T and codon 10 Leu/Pro polymorphisms were associated with the risk of stroke. Association of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene C677T and A1298C Polymorphisms with Myocardial Infarction From North of Fars Province

Background: The association between Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase polymorphism and Coronary Artery diseases risk has been both confirmed and refuted in a number of published studies. The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms of MTHFR (C677T, A1298C) contributed to the development of myocardial infarction (MI). Materials and Methods: The present case-contro...

The streptokinase therapy complications and its associated risk factors in patients with acute ST elevation myocardial infarction

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the main leading causes of mortality and morbidity. Despite the progress in the treatment of AMI, streptokinase is still being used in many countries. Because of the critical condition of patients with AMI and complications of streptokinase therapy, this study was performed to evaluate the pattern of adverse drug reaction (ADRs) induced by streptokina...

Silent Myocardial Infarction Presented with Homonymous Hemianopia: A Rare Case Study

Silent myocardial infarction is a little-known phenomenon, the mechanisms of which have still remained unclear. Herein, we presented the case of a middle-aged man suffering from silent myocardial infarction who presented with homonymous hemianopia and no other major cardiovascular risk factors, except for stage 1 hypertension.

Prevalence of Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Reperfusion Therapy and Mortality in Patients With ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Elderly and Middle-ages

Objectives The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors is different in the elderly and middle-aged. Therefore the present study aims to compare the prevalence of risk factors affecting ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), type of treatment, and mortality rate in these two groups. Methods & Materials This retrospective cohort study included 1 071 elderly and middle-aged ST-elevation my...
